What's The Only Thing That Really Matters In A Network Marketing Opprotunity

The only thing that really matters with regard to making money in network marketing in THE SYSTEM!!!
I define system as: "The series of steps that a person must go through in order to recruit the necessary number of people to start making some money"
The problem is that most of the time the "series of steps" necessary for someone to achieve success are not simple, nor are they easily duplicated
Below is an excerpt from the piece I wrote back in 2005, this should shed a little bit of light on the problem:

It is important that anyone reading this understands that there are a lot of companies that have come close to developing an actual “turn-key”, “hands-off” system but not a single company has actually succeeded (at least to the best of my knowledge).
Let's back up for a second and let me make one thing very clear. The problem with most Network Marketing companies is that they sell people on their product and compensation plan, but when it comes down to having an EASY way for members to “introduce” their business to others; virtually every company drops the ball. Or what's worse, these companies tell people what to do but the tasks are not easy.
My definition of easy is something that can be done without a lot of effort and with the brain capacity of a 5 year old. We also have to consider the fact that while some things may seem easy, they are in actuality NOT. What's easy for Mike may not be easy for Mary. So what we have to do is develop a set of tasks that ALL people will find EASY. Or even better yet... develop just ONE task that ALL people find easy and have that one task set in motion everything else that will result in new members signing up for the program. (This is called automation!)
A person must be able to accomplish this ONE task easily, quickly, and immediately after signing up for the program. Also, there must be no room for human error when accomplishing this task. The task must be as simple as pushing a button, or turning a key, or signing up for something online, or ordering a pizza. This task should set everything else in motion and get results very quickly.
Let me give you some examples of non-simple tasks (or things that most people really don't want to do that the geniuses in charge like telling people to do):
-Make a list of your top prospects -Invite them to this call -3-way to your up-line -Buy some leads and cold call a boat-load of people -Don't get discouraged when you cold call a boat load of people and they cuss you out and tell you never to call them again -Don't get upset when 5 people told you they would be on the conference call and none of them show up -Turn water into wine -Load this auto-responder -Advertise your business (this is wwwaaaayyy to vague) -Go pass out flyers or CD's using the 3 foot rule -Learn this script and then cold call some more leads -Go bug your friends and family even though you know that they are sick and tired of you bothering them -Read an entire website to get a full understanding of what we are doing -Attend these training calls so that you can learn a whole bunch of stuff -Get back to the person who invited you to this call -Know that if you are a really good marketer/salesperson and you sign up 10 people that 9 of them will drop out by next month -Read through your 257 page marketing/advertising kit and then put it into action -Run a mile in under 1 minute
---Excerpt Finished
Ok...so maybe I'm being a little bit of a smart ass with regard to some of those things but the reality is that having to cold call leads, telling anyone about anything, selling anyone on anything, three-waying to your up-line, attending conference calls, following up with leads, making a list of your top 20 Prospects, talking to strangers, figuring stuff out on your own, etc... IS NOT SIMPLE ... (or maybe it is simple and it's just that no one wants to do it)... regardless of whether or not you think this stuff is simple/easy, the fact is that someone doesn't want to do it then they aren't going to do it (Now our duplication doesn't exist)
Word to the wise; if the opportunity you are thinking about joining tells you to "just make a list of..." you need to run in the other direction.
Also if you have to 3-way to your up-line, or tell, sell, or explain anything to anyone, then go ahead and lace up your running shoes and get the hell out of dodge.
Here is what we have to understand...simplicity rules! A system is supposed to be simple, not have 100 moving parts and a whole bunch of unnecessary/non-automated human interaction
Please understand that I am not trying to do away with the human element, but rather subscribing to the thought that if there is a way to automate it, then let's do it
