The Reasons Why Women Divorce Men

Modern generations believe in instant gratification and do not want to suffer a marriage that isn’t absolutely perfect. The reasons why women divorce men are different from the reasons why men divorce women. This is possibly because different things are important to each of the sexes.

Emotional Abuse and Control

Women are said to have a greater tolerance level for most things when compared to men. They have the ability to take things in their stride and sweep things under the carpet. However, constant emotional abuse by a man can reach a point where a woman has had enough and wants out. A woman usually waits till she can take no more to decide on a divorce. Therefore, it is very rarely a whim.

Despite modern women being self-sufficient and financially independent, there are several men who are control freaks. They may not be obvious in their controlling behaviour but, slowly and surely, they work on undermining a woman’s confidence. The lower her self-esteem, the more emotionally dependent she becomes on the man. He begins controlling her thoughts, her movements and every aspect of her life. The penny finally drops and a woman decides she can take no more.

Infidelity

Though modern theorists will argue that women are increasingly having more affairs, statistics reveal that men are still more prone to infidelity than women. Very rarely can a woman have a mindless affair just for sexual gratification. Men, on the other hand, can easily have a fling and move on. Because they are so completely committed to their partners, women naturally expect an equal commitment.

Infidelity is one of the main reasons for divorce. Modern women who are financially independent see no reason why they have to put up with an unfaithful spouse. In earlier times, women may have looked the other way from a spouse’s infidelities because they felt they had no choice. Today women will not settle for less than an equal relationship. Therefore, if a man is not equally committed to the marriage, they prefer to get divorced.

Lack of Respect

It is very important for a woman to be able to respect the man she is married to. They like a man to be successful at what he does, has no addictions and is upright and honest. Especially since women have flourishing careers of their own, they need a man to be at least a little more successful. It becomes very difficult for a woman to deal with an insecure man and the battle of egos inevitably leads to divorce.

A woman finds it difficult to respect a man without a sense of integrity and, sooner or later, it will affect the relationship. Women may not compare their spouse with another man but they would like him to be the best he can be. A man who is defeatist and lacks self-esteem will not be able to hold on to a woman for long.

A Bad Father

There are some women who may even put up with abuse if it is restricted to them, but when it comes to their children, they are fiercely protective. Physical abuse of children by their fathers happens more frequently than people like to admit. Either because of a psychological disorder or alcoholism, many children face the brunt of an abusive father. Most women these days are financially secure enough to look after their children. If a man shows no signs of remorse or reformation, a woman will walk out of the marriage with her children.

Conclusion

It is difficult to make sweeping statements about why marriages work or why they don’t. However, societal factors and modern lives, too, play a role in how successfully people handle their relationships. We are living in an increasingly individualistic society and more than it being about a man or woman, it is about a person. As such, people of either sex are unwilling to compromise their standards or expectations. Women, more than ever before, want and expect an equal marriage on all fronts.

If a marriage does not live up to their ideal, they prefer to get divorced and try again. Divorce is also becoming more acceptable and there is no stigma attached. With social acceptance and financial independence, modern women do not shy away from getting divorced if they are not happy.
