Merits and demerits of Smart Lipo

Merits: Smartlipo has so many advantages. They are listed below: - Conventional liposuction uses a 4-6mm tube and a larger cannula which needs larger incision in the skin to insert it that may leave ugly scar after healing. Whereas Smartlipo equipment consists of 1-mm tube and smaller cannula which limits the size of incision in addition to minimizing tissue tear during insertion of the cannula. - Liposuction uses vacuum to absorb the solid fat which invariably induces bleeding and strains the tissue that may take more time to heal. But, Smartlipo is fitted with laser, which can block the smaller blood vessels resulting in less bleeding and swelling with a faster recovery. - In liposuction the tube is inserted and moved in the tissue manually by the doctor where the probability of tissue damage is more. - Liposuction should be strictly done under general anesthesia. But Smartlipo can be done very well under local anesthesia which reduces the apprehension and risks associated with recovery from general anesthesia. - Since liposuction sucks out the fat mechanically, it leaves the skin loose that may result in wrinkles. Whereas, in Smartlipo fat is liquefied and removed by the laser energy which also induces coagulation of blood vessels and new collagen growth helping in tightening the skin. - After recovering from anesthesia in liposuction, the patients feel very sick that forces them to stay off the work for many days. But in Smartlipo the post operative discomforts are as similar as that after a heavy exercise and they can go to work within a day or two. - Liposuction is more expensive than Smartlipo. Smartlipo Vs Lipo-dissolve - First and foremost disadvantage of Lipo-dissolve is it is not a recommended technique by the doctors. Smartlipo is approved by FDA after many studies. - Lipo-dissolve involves injection of chemicals into the target tissue, where the reactions cannot be controlled especially when there is a negative response. The chemicals liquefy the fat, but the excretion of this fat is still not clear. But in Smartlipo lasers melts the fat and simultaneously sucked by the cannula. The remaining fat, if any, is either utilized by the body or excreted. Free floating fat may precipitate heart ailments. - Even though it removes fat permanently with skin tightening similar to Smartlipo, the healing process after Lipo-dissolve are unclear. There are reports of hair fall, skin eruptions and other side effects after Lipo-dissolve. Demerits: - Only major disadvantage of Smartlipo is its cost when compared to Lipo-dissolve. - Rarely Smartlipo may lead to infection and collection of blood inside the tissue. - Asymmetrical relapse may occur. Anyway, it is important to know if the procedure fulfils one's requirements and expectations before taking up the course.
