The classic blue sapphire is a semi precious stone. Sapphire has never lost its timeless appeal. The gemstone sapphire comes in a hue of colors, however its pleasing blue color, makes Sapphire the gemstone of the heaven. The other colors of sapphire are pink, yellow, green, purple, orange and other. The chemical composition of sapphire is similar to that of ruby, thus it is not red sapphire, it is ruby.

Magical powers have been attached to sapphire since the ancient times, - ancient Priests used these gems to help them decipher Oracles, ancient kings wore sapphire to protect them from wicked thoughts and charm divine favor, the Greeks sanctified this gemstone and because of its divine blue color associated sapphire to their Sky God – Zeus, in the early ages sapphire pendant was worn to keep the heart healthy. The gem was believed to give a powerful defense against spell to the wearer, the ability to tell the truth from lies to the future.

Sapphires are tough gemstones. They are the second hardest mineral known to mankind, just next to diamond. It is because of this hardness that sapphires are associated with longevity and endurance. Persians believed that the earth rested on the massive sapphire and it is the reflection of this gemstone that makes the earth look blue. This also leads to the assumption that sapphire word originated from the Persian word ‘safir’, meaning beloved of the Saturn.

Sapphires have higher clarity values as compared to Emerald and Ruby. These gemstones look amazing in almost all cuts and shapes. The mystical allure of a sapphire makes it look comely with all metals like yellow gold, white gold and platinum. Sapphire is largely found in Ceylon which is today’s Sri Lanka. Most of the sapphires come from Australia and Thailand.

Sapphire has been a symbol of truth, loyalty, wisdom, virtue, faithfulness and holiness for long time. Apart from being a fashion ecstasy for women sapphire rings is also a popular choice for engagement ring or wedding ring. Sapphire is the symbol of chaste love and longevity, thus the sapphire ring reassures her of the man’s sincere commitment. Sapphire rings are very popular also because of the sheer glamour and elegance. A sapphire ring in white gold or platinum makes an exquisite accord.

Sapphire pendant or a sapphire necklace seems to bring sensual splendor to a women’s face. Solitaire sapphire pendants are noble as well as the symbol of intensity. The sapphire pendant or sapphire necklace, when worn with sapphire earrings, completes the amalgam of artistic sensibilities.
